The Fashion Center Business Improvement District, a not-for-profit
corporation, was established in 1993 to promote
the positive development of Midtown Manhattan’s
Fashion District. The FCBID works with local
businesses, property owners, and the City of New
York on specialized and ongoing programs to improve
the quality of life and economic vitality for all who
live, work and do business in the Fashion District.
FCBID Programs Include:
PUBLIC SAFETY
Uniformed public safety officers patrol the district seven days a week,
while FCBID public safety supervisors work closely with the NYPD and related
agencies to target areas
of concern. District building managers are regularly provided with special
safety bulletins and programs
to improve security.
STREET MAINTENANCE
District streets are cleaned seven days a week by uniformed
sanitation staff, working with building management, businesses and the
NYC Department of
Sanitation. Specialized services include graffiti removal, street furniture
painting, removal of snow and
ice from catch basins and crosswalks and steam-cleaning of sidewalks.
STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS
A number of street elements have been introduced
to improve the district’s appearance and safety, including: decorative
lampposts and waste
receptacles, information pylons, building address plaques, colorful banners,
winter holiday lighting,
seasonal plantings, uniform street signage and innovative side street security
lighting.
INFORMATION SERVICES
The Fashion Center Information Kiosk and
www.fashioncenter.com are vital sources of business-to-business information,
promoting Fashion
District and local businesses nationally and internationally.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
To increase the competitiveness of local companies, the
FCBID regularly conducts or co-sponsors business development seminars.
HOMELESS OUTREACH
In addition to working with numerous social service organizations
addressing issues which affect the district, the FCBID offers
street outreach services to homeless
and other affected individuals on district streets through the
Partnership for the Homeless.
FASHION WALK OF FAME
Fashion Walk of Fame celebrates the fashion designers
who established New York as a world fashion capital. Commemorative
plaques were installed along
Seventh Avenue to provide the district with an historical reference
point and serve as a tourist attraction.
SUMMER GARDEN
An urban oasis springs up every summer on the plaza at 39th
Street and Broadway. The FCBID provides café chairs among the plantings,
giving tenants a place to relax.
RETAIL PROMOTION
With some of New York’s highest pedestrian activity, the district
has been seeing a steady improvement in its retail sector. To reinforce
this trend, thousands of Fashion
District maps, which include a retail directory, are direct-mailed and
distributed.
REAL ESTATE PROMOTION
To promote the district as a great place to locate
a business and to highlight the area’s improvements, the FCBID markets
the district to the
real estate community through direct-mail campaigns and a specialized section
of its website,
www.fashioncenter.com/realestate.
VITAL SIGNS
The FCBID annually tracks the statistics that define
the district’s
economic
impact. These numbers are regularly made available to City officials, real
estate brokers, prospective
tenants and the media.
