Public Safety

 

The FCBID’s uniformed Public Safety Officers patrol the district seven days a week, making streets safer while also responding to public inquiries for information and directions. Public Safety supervisors work closely with the NYPD and related agencies to target areas of concern and provide building managers with safety bulletins and programs to improve security.

Staffing & Hours of Operation
The FCBID Public Safety Department numbers 4 supervisors and 23 Public Safety Officers. PSOs are on duty Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 7:15 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Status Report
NYPD statistics indicate a 19% decrease in crime in the Fashion District in the past year. Crime is down 70% overall since the FCBID was formed.

APPL Citation
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly officially recognized the work of three FCBID Public Safety Officers and presented them with special commendations at the November 2004 Midtown Area Police-Private Security Liaison Program (APPL) meeting. The FCBID Public Safety Officers were cited for assisting police in apprehending criminals during two serous incidents.

Operation Impact
Operation Impact, the NYPD program that sends large numbers of rookie officers into problem areas, again concentrated on the area from 35th to 41st Streets between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.
