Sanitation

District streets are cleaned seven days a week by uniformed sanitation staff, working cooperatively with the management staff of district buildings, local businesses and the NYC Department of Sanitation. Specialized services include graffiti removal, street furniture painting, steam-cleaning of sidewalks and other maintenance services.

STAFFING AND HOURS OF OPERATION The FCBID sanitation department consists of a department director, 3 supervisors and 24 sanitation workers. Hours of opera-tion are Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. On week-ends, the FCBID’s private contractor, Jag Maintenance, is on duty from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

STATS In 2005, both streets and sidewalks in the Fashion District were rated a near perfect 98.8% clean for the year by the Mayor’s Operation Scorecard. This represented the FCBID’s highest yearly average for street cleanliness. 2005 calendar year totals were 471 tons of trash and debris col-lected by the FCBID sanitation team, filling close to 76,000 of the FCBID’s signature button logo bags.

SERVICE INCREASE In 2005, the FCBID resumed steam cleaning of sidewalks, concentrating on the Avenues and other locations particularly in need. The service will be expanded to include all streets in the district.
