In partnership with Trizec Office Properties, FCBID creates the Fashion Center Summer Garden on the plaza of 1411 Broadway, filling the space with beautiful plantings and café seating.

“ Fashion in Bloom” outdoor exhibition of “100 Years of Fashion” goes on display in the Summer Garden. Colorful exhibit panels hang from oversized garment racks.

BID For KIDS program wins award from the International Downtown Association.

65 Bishop’s Crook lampposts are installed on Avenues throughout the district.


NOVEMBER 1998

FCBID mounts first BID for KIDS exhibit in the lobby of
1411 Broadway. FCBID’s NYFI program publishes The International Buyer’s Guide in four different languages. It also publishes The Export Guide and The Export Directory and produces a promotional music video.

NOVEMBER 1998

FCBID installs 200 custommade Fashion District address plaques on properties throughout the district.

DECEMBER 1998

FCBID creates the annual Fashion Center Award of Recognition to honor those who make outstanding contributions to the FCBID mission. The first recipients are then-Police Commissioner Howard Safir and First Deputy Commissioner Patrick Kelleher. Subsequent recipients include City Councilmember Christine Quinn, NYC Commissioner of Small Business Services Robert
Walsh and Ernst & Young Real Estate Director Michael Buckley, among others.

Crime is down 46% since the FCBID was formed. Sanitation's record to date: 1850 tons of litter collected. Economic Profile reports
that vacancies are down and rents are up in the district.
Information Kiosk has served more than 17,000 people to date.
