Fashion Walk Of Fame

July 30th was Fashion Walk of Fame Day in New York City!
Diane von Furstenberg and Liz Claiborne were inducted into the FCBID’s Fashion Walk of Fame on Wednesday, July 30 at a breakfast event attended by more than 200 fashion insiders at the Bryant Park Grill. The day was officially declared “Fashion Walk of Fame Day” in the City of New York by a representative for Mayor Bloomberg. The inductions of Diane von Furstenberg and Liz Claiborne marked the first after a 5 year hiatus for the project. By 2003, twenty-four designers had been inducted into the Fashion Walk of Fame and, in order to maintain its integrity, inductions were temporarily suspended. Due to a groundswell of interest in the industry, the Fashion Walk of Fame Selections Committee reconvened in 2007 and the
selection process for the 2008 awards began.

Diane von Furstenberg struck a pose with her plaque after the event. Each white
bronze plaque is 2 ½ feet in diameter and displays an original fashion sketch and
a description of the designers’ contribution to fashion.
Art Ortenberg, the late Liz Claiborne’s husband, unveiled his wife’s
commemorative plaque and spoke movingly of her love of fashion.
The packed crowd was delighted to hear that Mayor Bloomberg had officially
declared the day to be “Fashion Walk of Fame Day.”
