About the Kiosk

We make it easy to track down the companies and products you’re looking for. The Big Button kiosk is the only fully-staffed, walk-in information center to provide sourcing information and industry-related services to fashion professionals, students, hobbyists, visitors, and shoppers.

The Fashion Center Information Kiosk, located in the heart of the garment district on the northeast corner of Seventh Avenue and 39th Street in New York City, offers extensive sourcing information geared to assist national and international fashion professionals including press, stylists, photographers, designers, buyers and manufacturers in need of information and other industry related resources, services and events.

The Kiosk, including its distinctive rooftop sculpture, was designed by Pentagram Design, based upon the Fashion Center’s trademarked “button” logo, also created by Pentagram Design (the button holes form the letter “F”, for fashion). The button, which weighs more than 2,000 pounds, was made from foam-filled fiberglass at a scale 180 times that of a regular dress shirt button. Its diameter is 14 feet with an eight inch thick center and an edge of approximately two feet thick. The stainless steel needle supporting it is 31 feet long and is also built to scale. The button is mounted on the roof of the Information Kiosk at a 38 degree angle with the needle piercing a two by three foot copper “fabric” (which serves as a seat) before being bolted to the ground.

Opened in 1996, the Kiosk provides one-stop access to fashion information on virtually every aspect of the fashion industry in New York City. More than 25,000 business-to-business inquiries are answered per year through the Kiosk from across the country and around the world.

On a day-to-day basis the Fashion Center Kiosk provides free assistance such as: locating particular vendors or lists of vendors for buyers; looking for designers or merchandise for movies, television shows, photo shoots, etc. for fashion stylists; sourcing factories, fabric and trim, etc. for fashion designers; providing resource lists for people searching for fashion-related jobs; assisting buyers and manufacturers interested in attending or participating in New York City fashion trade shows; helping students working on school projects; providing retail sources of fabrics, notions, trim, etc. for home sewers and crafters; giving sample sale information to bargain-hunters; and even simply providing information to pedestrians and tourists on the Fashion Walk of Fame, fashion district retail and restaurants, or other general New York City tourist information.

The Information Kiosk is a service of the Fashion Center Business Improvement District, a non-profit corporation established in 1993 by district property owners and businesses to improve the quality of life and economic vitality and diversity of this unique, midtown-Manhattan neighborhood.
