sanitation

If you’ve spent any length of time in the Fashion District, chances are you’ve seen our sanitation staff on the sidewalks. Dressed in fashionable Fashion Center green with uniforms bearing the BID’s button logo, the FCBID’s 25 uniformed sanitation staff clean District streets and walkways seven days a week by working with building management, businesses and the NYC Department of Sanitation. Now on duty seven days a week, the FCBID sanitation staff keep streets and sidewalks clean but also remove graffiti and perform maintenance on the street including street furniture painting and steam-cleaning of sidewalks.

Cleanliness is Everyone’s Responsibility

In November, the FCBID published Let’s Keep It Clean: A Guide to NYC’s Sanitation Regulations, outlining building and business responsibilities for garbage collection, street sweeping, snow removal, recycling and other maintenance that is essential to the quality of life in the neighborhood. While the FCBID sanitation team is on duty seven-days-a-week, it is critical (and mandatory) that each and every business does its part to make sure the Fashion District looks its best. Remember: It’s the LAW – but it’s also good for business. In addition to being available on our website, the Guide was distributed by hand to each property and ground floor establishment.

Scoring Clean Marks

Efforts paid off in 2012 as the Mayor’s Operation Scorecard rated sidewalks 99.4 % clean and streets 98.2% clean for the year. To achieve those ratings, the FCBID sanitation staff worked a total of 54,080 hours, collecting 535.1 tons of trash in 76,129 logo bags. That makes grand totals to date of 7,073.4 tons collected in 1,060,200 logo bags.
