A number of street elements have been implemented to improve the district’s appearance and safety, including: 85 decorative lampposts, 80 waste receptacles, 7 information pylons, 150 building address plaques, 100 colorful banners, 100 winter holiday lighting fixtures, 325 coordinated street signage units, one multibox newsrack, 26 Fashion Walk of Fame medallions, over 500 innovative side street security lighting fixtures and one giant button sculpture!
In 2007 – 2008, the FCBID conducted ongoing routine maintenance on all of its streetscape elements. In addition, major maintenance was undertaken on the Bishop’s Crook lampposts and the Fashion Walk of Fame, and all street signage display systems were retrofitted to make them more tamper resistant.
Weekly checks of street furniture and infrastructure conditions continue to be performed by the FCBID infrastructure intern, and problems are routinely referred to 311, property owners, or the appropriate department within the BID, as necessary. This year, 127 complaints were called in to 311, and 111 of these were resolved by various city agencies.

INCENTIVE PROGRAMS
Property owners and retailers were again offered a variety of incentives to make improvements to their premises under the FCBID’s Making it Great incentive programs:
Make a Grand Entrance offers a $1000 per improvement incentive for a new see-through security grill, new sidewalk or new retail store signage.
Brighten Up Your Loading Dock offers properties the opportunity to have their loading docks painted by the FCBID free of charge. As a condition of participation, owners provide upgraded lighting in the loading docks. Eighteen properties took advantage of the loading dock program in its first year alone!
We Do Windows Too! offers to turn vacant space or windows into temporary art installations, or rehearsal or performance space with the assistance of the renowned arts organization, chashama.

PROPERTY IMPROVEMENT AWARDS
The FCBID bestows annual awards to recognize owners who make important investments in their buildings – investments that not only improve the value of their individual buildings, but that also improve the value and image of the entire district.
