Summer 07

AWARDS OF RECOGNITION

In 1998, The FCBID established the Fashion Center BID Award of Recognition to honor individuals who make outstanding contributions to the mission of the FCBID. At this year’s Annual meeting, two such individuals were honored.

Awards 2007: John Christ

Special Award of Recognition for Outstanding Service JOHN CHRIST FCBID Director of Sanitation
John Christ came to the FCBID in 1993, after a distinguished 20 year career with the New York City Department of Sanitation. John joined the BID as its first and, to date, only Director of Sanitation. In a position that has grown over the years as the scope of BID programming expanded, John manages a staff of 3 supervisors and 23 sanitation workers who keep the Fashion District clean every day. The results of his hard work and dedication are obvious. Fashion District streets and side- walks have never been cleaner. Over the years, John could always be counted on to give 110%. No job was too big or too small for John, and any requests to take on new projects or even just assist a colleague were always met with a cheerful “without a doubt!” As John retires this year, everyone at the BID is painfully aware of the void he will leave, not only in the opera- tion of this organization, but in its spirit as well. For his many years of dedication, the FCBID presented John Christ with its gratitude and with the Fashion Center BID Award of Recognition for Outstanding Service.

Awards: George Glatter

George Glatter: Assistant Commissioner for Neighborhood Development, New York City Department of Small Business Services
Assistant Commissioner for Neighborhood Development, New York City Department of Small Business Services Assistant Commissioner Glatter has worked with the FCBID for many years and served as the BID’s liaison to the Department of Small Business Services for 4 years. He has proven himself to be an avid supporter of the BID and an effective advocate. This year, his efforts were more crucial than ever. As the FCBID faced a stalemate regarding its application for a building permit for its new office space, George Glatter’s inter-agency work on this organization’s behalf played a crucial role in the resolution of this problem. The BID would not be in its new space without the work of George Glatter. For that, and for all the assistance and good counsel he has provided the FCBID organization over the years, Assistant Commissioner George Glatter was presented with the Fashion Center BID Award of Recognition.

Awards 2007: Maria Malone-Hodges

MARIA MALONE-HODGES Operations Manager, Port Authority Bus Terminal, December 2003 to December 2005
In her former role as Operations Manager for the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Maria Malone-Hodges was an active and supportive member of the Board of Directors of the FCBID. Working closely with the BID organization staff on such collaborative projects as the 2 new touch screen information terminals that were installed in the Bus Terminal during the past year, her ability to move projects forward and to effectively navigate the bureaucracy of such a large agen- cy was nothing short of remark- able. Her assistance in setting up the first kite festival on the Bus Terminal rooftop was also invalu- able. Now having moved on to a new position, she is greatly missed. For her outstanding contribution to the FCBID organization and to the Fashion District community, Maria Malone-Hodges was presented with the Fashion Center BID Award of Recognition.
