Homeless Outreach

David Baker is the outreach worker assigned to the Fashion District by the Partnership for the Homeless. David works closely with FCBID staff and with repre-sentatives of many social service organizations to find appropriate assistance for those in need.

This winter, David served as the FCBID's representative and team leader during the City's annual Winter Homeless Count overnight on February 27. His team noted the presence of nine homeless persons in the district that night, two of whom agreed to accept services and were transported to the Open Door, a nearby drop-in center.

Street Vending Update

The new presiding judge at the Midtown Community Court has indicated that he intends to take a tougher stance in dealing with all illegal street vendors, and the FCBID is committed to assisting the efforts of the judge, the police and prosecutors in dealing with this intractable problem. Toward that end, on June 15 the FCBID cosponsored a forum, where a distinguished panel of experts explored a number of approaches to address the serious problem of the trade in counterfeit goods. Since many of these items are fashion-related and are sold on the streets, the FCBID invited its more than 450 fashion tenants to the meeting.
