Environs is the newsletter of the Fashion Center Business Improvement District (FCBID), a not-for-profit corporation, established in 1993 to promote the positive development of Midtown Manhattan's most authentic neighborhood, the Fashion District. The FCBID works with local businesses, property owners and the City of New York on specialized and ongoing programs to improve the quality of life and economic vitality in the district for all who live, work or do business here.

"I have been shopping in the district since 1985 when I moved to New York to study jewelry design. The bead shops were a regular stop for me. Then, working in an afterschool program, I began shopping for trim, notions, fabric etc. As an artist, I like to purchase supplies that are unique and not readily available anywhere else.
