plaza art

The Fashion Center Business Improvement District is proud to maintain the pedestrian plazas on Broadway between 35th Street and 41st Street. In an effort to enliven this public space, which we consider to be the only “green” space in the neighborhood, we plan and program a variety of free and public arts installations and events on the plazas. This programming is also a celebration of the artists and designers who make this the creative epicenter of midtown. This summer the BID will launch its fourth annual summer arts display on the Broadway plazas, so stay tuned!

Broadway Green: Sculpture with Nature
July 9 through November 2012

Created by New York based environmental artists, Patricia Leighton and Del Geist, BROADWAY GREEN’s seven growing sculptures bring the presence of green and a touch of nature to each of the pedestrian plazas on Broadway. The raised cubes visually and contextually elevate nature, leading the eye upwards and creating a contemplative natural presence within the vibrant core of New York’s Fashion District.

On display July 9 through August 27th, BROADWAY GREEN extends along the Broadway plazas, from 36th Street to 41st Street
Figurations: The Fashion District Pilings Project

Created by artist Joan Benefiel, the exhibit of 30 translucent resin sculptures will parade along the bustling Broadway corridor, from 36th Street to 41st Street. The fiery glowing pieces will be installed on tall wooden pilings, mingling just above the heads of the plaza habitues.
